Arc de Triomphe

Arch - Paris, France

This gigantic Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile in Paris is one of the most known monuments in the world. In 1806, Napoleon I., after his great victory at the Battle of Austerlitz (1805), he commissioned the arch to celebrate the military achievements of the French armies. Designed by Jean-François-Thérèse Chalgrin, the arch is 50 metres high and 45 metres wide. It is located in a circular square where the giant streets intersect and form a star (étoile).
